measure of capacito not present in the table
« : 30 Апрель 2012, 18:45:45 »
hi guys,

now has arrived my esr-micro v4.0s   ;D

now i have a capacitor of 1uF 275vac.
on the esr micro i read aesr of 8.4ohm.
this capacitor isn't on the table!
what's the correct value to understant thath the capacitor is ok?
the same for a capacitor of 4.7uF 400v

can you tell me the method for discharge quichly the capacitors?

thx

Hi Alex,
good to see you here
try to use this diagram
it uses in "Blue ESR-meter"

thank you very much!

in my case my capacitor of 1uf 275vac polyestre with esr 8.4 is good?
if i see the diagram it's should be about 50.
is correct or i don't understand?

do you think it's better to use the diagram of blue esr meter or the original table of esr micro v4?

yes sure ESR 8-10 ohms is normal for this capacitance. You can see 2 parameters and make decision from them. If cap is dead, it will have capacitance much lower than nominal as well ESR will be much greater than "table ESR" (or from diagramm).
Table we use is table from previous version "Blue meter" but i think maybe diagram is more comfortable for using

sorry but i don't understand!
why do you tell me that the esr is good for my capacitor in polyester of 1uF 275v?
i read 8.4 but if i see the diagram it should be esr about 75!!

Alex, you didn't understand clearly!!! ESR MUST BE LOWER than these values!!!
NOT ABOUT 75, BUT LOWER 75!!!

Lower ESR - better capacitor quality!

ok thanks!!

but 8.4 and 75 is a big difference!!  :-)

hehe, it is very good capacitor!
actually i think you can make similar table with yourself, just need to have  a heap of new different capacitors from different brands. Just measure and take maximal esr values. I really don't know how this diagram was built... I took the same measurement parameters for checking. Here you can see compairing our 4.0 with others meters:

another question:

on instructions there is written:

"If the capacitor is shorted (DC resistance is equal to 0), then «R ONLY» - “Resistor!” will be displayed on the
lower line and the symbol “E” in the top row is changed to “R”. The majority of ESR meters detecting this failure will
indicate a capacitor with an ESR = 0. The same symbols are displayed while low-ohms resistors are checked."

is the same also for the micro v4.0s?
because i have a shorted capacitor and on display are displayed on esr and capacitance this symbols:   ---   ---
and not "R" or "E"

If cap is shorted you should see "0.00   ---"
If you see "---   ---" it means it is shorted (doesn't charge) and its resistance greater than 200 ohms
What is the reading for this cap if you use multimeter in "Ohms" mode?

if i remember with multimeter i read 0,5 kohm.
is it possible?
today i will repeat the measure with multimeter

yes i confirm it reads 0.5 khoms constant an doesn't charge with multimeter

yesterday i tested some capacitors.
Sorry but i don't understand how to know if a capictor is good or not, because the table of esr of the istructions of the esr micro v4.0 and the diagram of the blue esr meter are different!.

here some examples:

2.2uf 63V  esr your table: 10   diagram blue esr meter: about 50
100uf 25V esr your table: 0.32  diagram blue esr meter: about 4

If you see the values of the esr are more different!
you will tell me...esr must be lower than these values.. but between 10 and 50 there are 40 ohms!
the same between 0.32 and 4 ,there are a big difference.
If you can rewrite a good table to unerstand how to use ours esr micro v4.

thx!
